Why 100@100?
TechBridgeWorld relies on the generous support of our sponsors to continue and grow. Your sponsorship enables innovative technology solutions to overcome challenges in sustainable development.
100 people giving or fundraising $100 each totals $10,000, the amount it costs us to support a Carnegie Mellon student or recent alum to participate in the iSTEP Internship (this funding covers their internship stipend, travel expenses, and our programming costs).
The innovative Student Technology ExPerience (iSTEP) internship program is in the midst of its 4th year after successful partnerships in Tanzania (2009), Bangladesh (2010), and Uruguay (2011). For iSTEP 2012 we recruited, selected, and trained a team of Carnegie Mellon students to conduct technology research projects in Ghana with partners at Ashesi University College.
The program is a tremendous learning experience for Carnegie Mellon students and is a unique opportunity for TechBridgeWorld to collaborate with community partners who are especially interested in sustaining technology research projects to benefit the people they serve.
As a result of donors' support during the first year of the 100@100 campaign, we announced Roberto Ponce Lopez as TechBridgeWorld’s first 100@100 Fellow. Roberto was the team’s Needs Assessment and Evaluation Lead and was selected by his teammates to be the iSTEP 2011 team leader. Details on the iSTEP 2011 team, the outcomes of their projects, and blogs and photos of their experiences are available online.
Did you know...
- TechBridgeWorld has been gradually increasing and diversifying our funding sources, but we still only have a very small number of full-time paid staff operating the majority of our programs. We have many ideas for how a larger team supported by greater resources could enhance our impact around the world and the learning opportunities we offer to Carnegie Mellon students.
- All levels of support are welcome. Every dollar of support helps the work of TechBridgeWorld! 100% of donations come to TechBridgeWorld.
- If you pay taxes in the United States, your contribution is tax deductible and Carnegie Mellon’s University Advancement team can provide you with documentation for tax purposes. In the United States, gifts made between January 1 and December 31, 2011 are tax deductible for the 2011 tax year, and gifts made between January 1 and December 31, 2012 are tax deductible for the 2012 tax year.
- All donations made to TechBridgeWorld not only support our activities, but such contributions will also count towards cumulative goals for Inspire Innovation, the Campaign for Carnegie Mellon which is currently underway.
- When Carnegie Mellon students and alumni give to TechBridgeWorld, their gift also helps them meet one of the requirements for being a part of the Loyal Scot Program and we created a Special Challenge available through this campaign for Carnegie Mellon students and alumni.
- When Carnegie Mellon faculty and staff give to TechBridgeWorld, their gift also supports the university’s faculty and staff annual giving goals. Payroll deduction is a popular option for Carnegie Mellon faculty and staff to give to TechBridgeWorld.
